Overheard in an Asheville restaurant

We ate lunch at this place where we had to sit entirely TOO close to other people and I could hear every word of the ultra-loud conversation the girls (early 20s) and the older lady with them, seemed like their mom (early 50s?) was saying.

I had my TURKISH husband and my kids with me. He was sitting opposite me and is always oblivious to what's going on around him, so he didn't hear them, but the part of their conversation that I caught went something like this:

Girl 1: Oh, you know, in all of the Middle Eastern countries, all of the girls and women have to completely cover all parts of their bodies anytime they go out. They can't even sit near windows.

Girl 2: How awful it must be to be a woman in a Middle Eastern country, ugh!

Mom-like lady: Well you know...they have to completely cover themselves because the Middle Eastern men cannot control themselves.

LMAO

I am not kidding. I am about 110% confident that if they could tell my DH was Middle Eastern by looking at him, they might have thought twice about making that sweeeeeping, ridiculous generalization out loud. But then they probably think they would know "one" when they saw "one"...just by looking at him! Pissed me off to have that going on right next to me.

Just dyed my daughter's hair red

I am of the belief that if I let her do stuff like this that is virtually harmless that she'll feel like she has some freedom. But purple? Yeah. I can't wait to see what it looks like when it's rinsed out!

What? You didn't get Barack the Magic Negro in your stocking this year?

Looks like some did!

Wow, classy!

(CNN)
-- A candidate for the Republican National Committee chairmanship said Friday the CD he sent committee members for Christmas -- which included a song titled "Barack the Magic Negro" -- was clearly intended as a joke.
The title of the song about President-elect Barack Obama was drawn from a Los Angeles Times column.

The title of the song about President-elect Barack Obama was drawn from a Los Angeles Times column.

"I think most people recognize political satire when they see it," Tennessee Republican Chip Saltsman told CNN. "I think RNC members understand that."

The song, set to the tune of "Puff the Magic Dragon," was first played on conservative political commentator Rush Limbaugh's radio show in 2007.

You know what? I LOVE that necklace! ADORE it!

I bitched about it when I found out prematurely what he got me for Christmas this year. Now that I have it, I love love love it! It's beautiful and looks great! Here's what it is:

Tiffany/Elsa Peretti "The Bean" Necklace

I LOVE IT!

DH, if you ever read that old blog, I'm sorry. I thought I didn't like it, but I do.

Feeling like an ungrateful butt now!

Why NOT to wait until, say, TODAY to put together a Xmas present!

We bought DS a Razor Rip Rider 360 through a pretty big company. Of course, I told DH not to put it together before today because it would be discovered. Well last night he was putting it together at like 2am and realized that a part is defective that is a major fixed part of the bike. We have to go out and try to find another TODAY.

Ladies and gentlemen...the Maaaan Soooong

Funny, dude!

Cigarette coupons

Yesterday, addressed to ME was a Camel calendar and 3 coupons good for $1.50 off of something called camel no. 9.

Now I will have the occasional drunken bummed cigarette or smoke some when I am on a weekend away from my kids if we are just hanging out or whatever, but I don't regularly buy cigarettes or smoke.

WHY did they send these to me? It seems unethical to me. I did some searching around online and apparently the only way to get on a cigarette coupon mailing list is to call and request it by the company.

With a teen in the house, this just makes me angry that they are this aggressive.

5 Shameful Confessions

1. I am a big fan of Gossip Girl and I've seen every last episode. I also look forward to Monday for this reason alone.

2. I also like Eminem songs and I have like 15 on my iPod. All explicit.

3. I keep a can of Chef Boyardee something in the cupboard in case of meltdown.

4. Sometimes I drop my kids off in my pajamas and come home and watch TV until it's time to pick them up. Like once a month.

5. I have a very juvenile (think 15 yo boy) sense of humor and make my DH blush with some of my gestures and jokes.

Not even ONE day out of the month!

I normally am not a big fan of the kids' school lunches because they order them from a greasy-spoon type of place. BUT, I like to find a few days during the month where it's something they like and will eat because I'd like a break sometimes from making lunches. I was just ordering their January lunches and there's not ONE DAY that has a meatless option. Not one day. Not even cheese pizza. WTF? My DD is a vegetarian now and this just pisses me right off.

I have returned the menu with a post it asking if we can get just ONE meatless day per month. Holding my breath starting....

NOW

Dang...skateboarding is STILL a crime?

I swear that was the angst of the 80s & 90s, but our town just banned skateboarding in our downtown district. Crazy. We actually have a skateboarding advocacy group, too, so it gets interesting.

My new favorite song! Oh No You Didn't!

I downloaded this after hearing it on the Sirius Alt station and I just...well, I really like it. I think it's some video game theme or something, but it is so ironic and it just cracks me up.

Cookies are stupid.

I was baking my favorite candy cane cookies for my cookie exchange tomorrow. Not the kind that are shaped like candy canes, the kind that HAS crushed candy canes in it. Well, apparently that doesn't work out so well on the Pampered Chef stone. The candy stuck all over the damned thing and ruined my cookies. SO I tried it on a regular pan, greased and same damned thing. I'm so mad. I have to make some other freaking cookie. I was so excited that I'd have this done. Do I have to make GASP chocolate chip? I told DH last night that chocolate chip cookies were for losers when he suggested it LOL. I guess candy cane cookies are REALLY for losers.

Funny televised freakouts

I just loooove televised freakouts. They rock! NSFW or kids.

Come on, all you SINGLE LADIES!

Don't you wish you were hot like. Him?

Monday, December 8, 2008

Aww I ruin his surprises EVERY TIME!

Okay, so I have a habit of ruining DH's surprises for Xmas. Not on purpose, but something always goes wrong and he THINKS he knows what I want or it's something I wanted, but then realized that I didn't, or an obvious charge will show up while I am doing bills or something, yk?

I am not really a jewelry girl. Like I like a few certain pieces, but it's never been my "thing".

Last year, he bought me one of those Journey necklaces because I kept oohing and aahing over the commercials for like 2 years...because I like the commercials. Well, it was a LOT smaller than what he thought it would have been when it arrived and by the time it got here, I really didn't want it. He offered to take it back and get me something I really really wanted and that was fine, but I felt bad. I didn't tell him I didn't want it anymore, but he was mad that it was too small, and that was sort of my out.

This year, I was drooling over a necklace that I saw online somewhere and he caught me looking at it and was curious because I was like dang, that's nice. I didn't say I freaking wanted it. I just commented on it. Well, a box came last week addressed to him and he whisked it away. Not before I noticed the return address. I figured it was some musical instrument when I saw it was addressed to him (it was small, but he orders different guitar pedals), but I just left it sit there. LATER, he was talking about how he only needed to get my stocking stuffers and I remembered him telling me that he ordered me something that would be very obvious when it got here so I should just avoid the packages for a while LMAO. I know, right?

Well, I put it together and I know where that box came from. I also know that IF it's where I think it came from, I DON'T WANT TO OWN THAT NECKLACE. I thought it was nice, but the chain won't even fit me on the one I was looking at. I am so freaked out that he got me something that I won't be able to wear. It wasn't cheap, IF it's what I think it is.

Here's the thing. This is like the 5th Christmas or so that I just KNEW what he got me before Christmas came. I don't WANT to know, I just DO. I'm Christmas psychic or something. And I swear, I talked about this necklace in like October, so WTH?

OMG, now that I am putting this all down, I am cracking up at how silly it sounds, but I am really bummed that he spent some $$ on something that I really don't care that much about LOL It's not proportionate LOL

Mom, you need a Spin Lash

WTH? that thing looks scary to me! My son just saw it on TV and said I need it. I could just see the one that I bought malfunctioning and like SUCKING my eyelashes and lid and eventually face into the spinning mechanism. No thanks, son.

My mom has pulmonary emboli

She texted me yesterday to tell me that she felt short of breath and nauseous and just all-over not feeling good. She wanted to know if that's what it felt like when we had pneumonia recently. I told her that if it was pneumonia, they could treat it really quickly and the faster she's seen, the faster she'll feel better.

Well she texted me a few hours later to say that they found that she has several blood clots in her right lung, and later they found them in the left as well. The good news is that she doesn't have them in her legs, which they checked for thoroughly.

I am thankful that they found it right away and they are treating her with blood thinners, but she's not out of the woods and they are keeping her at least a couple more days.

What I find interesting is that the doctors told her once you've had it, it's likely to recur. How scary! I asked if it could be any of the meds that she takes that would contribute to this and they said no.

I went to bed last night with this awful feeling of dread, and although I never bring my cell to bed with me, I did last night. I really think she's going to be fine now, but this type of thing seems so sneaky and hard to predict!

Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers if you can.
